| ROCK-EVAL/TOC DATA FOR DEVONIAN POTENTIAL SOURCE ROCKS, WCSB Martin G. Fowler, Mark Obermajer, Lavern D. Stasiuk The Rock-Eval/TOC data set presented in this report was assembled during a large multidisciplinary study of Devonian of Western Canada, conducted by Natural Resources Canada (Geological Survey of Canada Calgary), with cooperation of industrial partners (GSC IPP project 950005 "Devonian Petroleum Systems of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin"). The project was initiated in September 1995 as a part of the Industrial Partners Program, with a final report released in November 1999 (Fowler et al., 1999). The principle purpose of the project was to enhance our knowledge and understanding of Devonian petroleum systems of Western Canada. Many cores were examined and sampled during the study, and where core was not available, cuttings were sampled. Rock samples were screened for their organic-richness and source rock potential using Rock-Eval instrumentation equipped with a module for obtaining total organic carbon (TOC) values. These results were combined with data from older analyses and some data provided by Esso to give the data base which contains records for 3864 samples (Appendix 2 of the final report, Fowler et al., 1999). The original data files, as presented in the final November 1999 report, are included on this disk and can be found in the /data/xls folder. A more detailed description of the experimental procedure and a brief guideline to interpretation of the Rock-Eval/TOC results are also included in this report. The Rock-Eval/TOC data presented here represent one of several extensive data sets generated during the course of the study. The present disk is a follow up to the GSC Open File 4341 (Stasiuk and Fowler, 2002), which contains optical thermal maturity data in the form of vitrinite reflectance and vitrinite reflectance equivalent (%Ro) from over 500 locations for Devonian and Devonian-Mississippian strata in the Western Canada Sedimentary basin.
