METADATA Title: A GIS dataset of geological features for the Brown Lake map area (95C/7), Yukon Territory. Originator: Khudoley A. K. Publication_Date: 2003 Presentation_Form: CD-ROM Series_Name: Digital Open File Issue_Identification: 1765 Publication_Place: Calgary, Alberta, Canada Publisher: Geological Survey of Canada Citation_Details: Khudoley A. K. 2003: A GIS dataset of geological features for the Brown Lake map area (95C/7), Yukon Territory; Geological Survey of Canada, Open File map 1765. Abstract: The geological map and database are derived from regional mapping in the Brown Lake (NTS 95C/7) 1:50 000 scale map area, as part of the Geological Survey of Canada’s Central Foreland NATMAP project. Geological features represented by attributed points, lines, and polygons have been compiled into a GIS dataset suitable for stand-alone use, or integration with other data sets. User-defined attributes provide traditional geological map information with greater detail and enhancements, such as explicit orientation data and lithologies. The Brown Lake map area is situated to the west of the southern end of the Franklin Mountains in a foothills physiographic setting. The geology of the area is characterized by sedimentary strata with a predominance of terrigenous rocks of Late Devonian to Early Cretaceous in age. Three subparallel unconformities at the base of Permian, within Permian, and at the base of Triassic successions are recognized. Lower Cretaceous rock units overlie Triassic and Permian rock units with low-angle unconformity at trending box-like folds with narrow limbs and wide hinge zones with sub-horizontal bedding. Locally, the east limb of the Fantasque Syncline is cut by west-verging thrust fault of minor displacement. Stratigraphic improvements include recognition of the informal Permian Tika map unit above the Mattson Formation, assignment of Triassic strata to the Toad Formation, and local recognition of the Chinkeh Formation at the base of Lower Cretaceous succession. Purpose: Provided as part of a National Mapping (NATMAP) commitment to compile Geographic Information System products. Supplemental_Information: Points, lines, polygons, and attribute data representing the geology of the area covered by NTS maps 95C/7 (1:50 000 scale) in southeastern Yukon Territory, southwestern Northwest Territories, northeastern British Columbia, Canada.
