A) DOCUMENTATION

This CD contains a documentation file summarizing data acquisition, compilation and conversion to digital format, as well as a legend description.

This file is located in the root of the [OpenFile] directory and should be read first.  Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® (which can be found in the [OpenFile\Application\Acrobat] subdirectory) is required to read the documentation file.




B) DATA

The surficial materials and ground ice information in the Mackenzie-Beaufort region data set (ArcView® shapefile format) is located in the subdirectory [OpenFile\Data\Shapefile].

Subsets of the data identifying shotholes with pure ice, massive ice, and wedge ice (in ArcView® shapefile format) are also located in the subdirectory [OpenFile\Data\Shapefile].

*  wedge_ice.shp (0.2 MB)

A legend file in ArcView® format for each shapefile can be found in the subdirectiory [OpenFile\Data\Legend]:

Shapefiles representing the boundary of the study area, the limits of National Topographic System (NTS) map sheets, and the communities within the area are provided in the subdirectory [OpenFile\Data\Shapefile] with an associated legend file located in the subdirectory [OpenFile\Data\Legend].

The data can be viewed and queried with ESRI® ArcExplorer® software, which is included on the CD [OPENFILE\APPLICATIONS\ARCEXP]. Once the software is installed, the themes can be added to the view using the "add theme(s) to view" button.  The data themes can also be viewed 
in ESRI® ArcView®, ArcGIS® or ArcInfo® software packages, as well as on other GIS platforms.
	
Metadata files following the FGDC standards are provided in .TXT format in the subdirectory [OpenFile\Data\Metadata].

C)  APPLICATIONS 

Adobe® Acrobat® Reader®, in the subdirectory [OpenFile\Application\Acrobat], and ESRI® ArcExplorer®, in the subdirectory [OpenFile\Application\ArcExp], are provided as freeware browsing applications.  Both must be installed on a computer to be used.
