The Central Foreland NATMAP Project

METADATA - E00 FILES

PROCESS DESCRIPTION:
Topographic relief and drainage files were obtained from Geomatics Canada  in DXF format and imported to ArcInfo. Geological features were digitized in
MicroStation/J, exported as DXF and imported to ArcInfo 8.2. User-defined attributes were added to complete the tables as described below.

ARCINFO GENERATED COLUMNS:
AREA           area of polygon
PERIMETER perimeter of polygon
FNODE#       Internal sequence number of the from-node
TNODE#       Internal sequence number of the to-node
LPOLY#        Internal sequence number of the left polygon
RPOLY#       Internal sequence number of the right polygon
LENGTH       Length in coverage units
COVER1#     Internal sequence number (i.e., the record number) of the arc

                    in the arc file
COVER-ID     User-assigned feature ID

USER-DEFINED ATTRIBUTES - POINT FEATURES:

TABLE srp95c7
Purpose:      contains the attributes of points representing orientation
                   measurements
Columns:
planar_id      A unique identification for each planar measurement
planar_typ    The type of planar feature. Examples: bedding, cleavage
modifier        Description of the feature type. Examples: overturned,
                   irregular
strike           Strike (according to the Right-Hand Rule)
dip               Dip
location        Distance/direction from the station if measured between
stations or away from the station
trend            Trend of linear feature (value of 999 if no measurement
                   available)
plunge          Plunge of linear feature (value of 999 if no measurement
                   available)
linear_typ     The type of linear feature. Examples: ripple crests, fold axis
comment      Notes relating to measurement
station_id     A unique identification of the outcrop where the measurements

                   were taken
disp_ang      Achieves Right-Hand Rule orientation of symbols in ArcView.

                   Derived using the formula (270-strike)
nts_map       National Topographic System designator. Example: 95C/7

TABLE stp95c7
Purpose:       contains the attributes of points representing outcrops
Columns:
station_id      A unique identification of each outcrop where observations were

                    made
easting         UTM NAD83 easting coordinate value of the station
northing        UTM NAD83 northing coordinate value of the station
elevation       Elevation of the station in feet above Mean Sea Level
unit              The predominant geological unit at the outcrop
dom_lithol     The dominant lithologies at the outcrop
contacts       A list of units in contact with the predominant unit
sta_signif      The significance of the station
geologist       Observing geologist

nts_map        National Topographic System designator. Example: 95C/7

USER-DEFINED ATTRIBUTES - LINE FEATURES:

TABLE gel95c7
Purpose:      contains the attributes of geology lines
Columns:
type             The type of feature. Examples: fault, contact
subtype        Subdivision of the feature type. Examples: normal,

                    approximate
direction        Directional information pertaining to asymmetric features.

Example: dip direction of a fault
nts_map        National Topographic System designator. Example: 95C/7

USER-DEFINED ATTRIBUTES - POLYGON FEATURES:

Purpose:       contains the attributes of polygons representing geological

                    units
Columns:
label             Hardcopy map unit labels
formation      Unit name
group           Group name
member       Member name
gen_descr    Unit description
nts_map      National Topographic System designator. Example: 95C/7

chron_age    Sequential numbering of units from youngest to oldest
                   for this map area
