geological features for the Babiche Mountain map area (95C/8), Yukon
Territory and Northwest Territories; Geological Survey of Canada,

Abstract: The geological map and database are derived from regional
mapping in the
Babiche Mountain (NTS 9C/8) 1:50 000 scale map area, as part of the
Geological Survey of Canada’s Central Foreland NATMAP project.
Geological features represented by attributed points, lines, and polygons have
been compiled into a GIS dataset suitable for stand-alone use, or
integration with other data sets. User-defined attributes provide
traditional geological map information with greater detail and enhancements,
such as explicit orientation data and lithologies at visited outcrops.
The Babiche Mountain map area is situated at the southern end of
the Franklin Mountains in a foothills physiographic setting. The geology
of the area is characterised by sedimentary strata of Late Devonian to
Early Cretaceous age, exposed in a series of asymmetrical box or kink
folds whose geometry is controlled largely by the competence of the
Carboniferous Mattson Formation. Structure in the area is dominated by
the La Biche and Kotaneelee anticlines trending approximately north.
Minor faults with less than a few hundred metres of displacement are
also reflected in the map pattern. En echelon folds at the southern end
of the Kotaneelee Range link the Kotaneelee anticline with the Mount
Martin anticline to the south. Stratigraphic improvements include the
recognition of the Permian strata above the Mattson Formation informally
known as the Tika map unit, the assignment of Triassic strata to the
Toad Formation, and the recognition of the Lower Cretaceous Chinkeh
Formation.
Purpose: Provided as part of a National Mapping (NATMAP)
commitment to compile Geographic Information System products.
Supplemental_Information: Points, lines, polygons, and attribute
data representing the geology of the area covered by NTS map 95C/8 (1:50
000 scale) in southeastern Yukon Territory and southwestern Northwest Territories, Canada.
