ABSTRACT the area is characterized by sedimentary strata, predominantly terrigenous rocks of Late Devonian to Early Cretaceous in age. A sub-parallel unconformity at the base of Permian is recognized. Lower Cretaceous rock units overlie Permian rock units with a low-angle unconformity. Predominant structures are regional-scale, north- to northwest-trending, west-verging asymmetrical box-like folds. The anticline on the west side of the map area is imbricated by a west-vergent thrust fault, and the southwest dipping limb of the La Biche Anticline is imbricated by two northwest-vergent thrust faults of minor displacement. Interference of differing fold trends creates local culminations within the map area. Stratigraphic improvements include recognition of the informal Permian Tika map unit above the Mattson Formation, and recognition of the Chinkeh Formation at the base of the Lower Cretaceous succession.
