geological features for the Tika Creek map area (95C/10), Yukon Territory
and Northwest Territories; Geological Survey of Canada, Open File

Abstract: This geological map and database are derived from regional mapping in the Tika Creek (NTS 95C/10) 1:50 000 scale map area, as part of the
Geological Survey of Canada's Central Foreland NATMAP project. Geological features represented by attributed points, lines, and polygons have been
compiled into a GIS dataset suitable for stand-alone use, or integration
with other data sets. User-defined attributes provide traditional
geological map information with greater detail and enhancements such as
explicit orientation data and lithologies. The
Tika Creek map area is situated to the west of the southern end of the
Franklin Mountains in a foothills physiographic setting. The
geology of
the area is
characterized by sedimentary strata, predominantly terrigenous
rocks of Late Devonian to Early Cretaceous in age. A sub- parallel
unconformity at the base of Permian is
recognized. Lower Cretaceous rock units overlie Permian rock units with
a low-angle unconformity at the base. Predominant structures are regional-scale, north- to northwest-trending,
west-verging asymmetrical box-like folds. The anticline on the west side
of the map area is imbricated by a west-vergent
thrust fault, and the southwest dipping limb of the La Biche
Anticline is imbricated by two northwest-vergent thrust faults of minor
displacement.
Interference of differing fold trends creates local culminations within the map
area. Stratigraphic improvements include recognition of the informal Permian
Tika map unit above the Mattson Formation, and recognition of the Chinkeh
Formation at the base of the Lower Cretaceous
succession.
Purpose:
Provided as part of a National Mapping (NATMAP) commitment to compile
Geographic Information System products.
Supplemental_Information: Points, lines, polygons, and attribute
data representing the geology of the area covered by NTS map 95C/10
(1:50 000 scale) in southeastern Yukon Territory and southwestern
Northwest Territories, Canada.
