OVERVIEW TITLE: A GIS dataset
of geological features for the Tika Creek map area
(95C/10), Yukon Territory and Northwest Territories. FEATURE TYPE AND LOCATION INFORMATION: Points, lines,
polygons, and attributes representing the geology of the area covered by
NTS map 95C/10 in southeastern Yukon Territory and southwestern
Northwest Territories, Canada. Bounding Coordinates: Geographic coordinates (latitude/longitude) in decimal degrees. SW Bounding Coordinate: 60.50 -125.00 SE Bounding Coordinate: 60.50 -124.50 NW Bounding Coordinate: 60.75 -125.00 NE Bounding
Coordinate: 60.75 -124.50 Platform: Desktop Computer Operating System: Microsoft Windows2000 Application:
MicroStation/J, ArcInfo 8.2 Geological
stations were positioned using uncorrected GPS NAD27 coordinates.
Coordinates were transformed to NAD83 using NTV2 software and
compilation was based on the positions of the stations. Prior to
compilation the base map data was converted from metric to Imperial
values in ArcInfo 8.2 using a conversion factor of 0.3048. This
conversion achieved consistency with Geomatics Canada hardcopy maps used
during field data collection and which were available only in Imperial
units. Projection: Universal Transverse Mercator Horizontal Datum: North American Datum 1983 Vertical Datum: Mean Sea Level Scale: 1:50 000
Distance Elevation Units: Feet Type of Media: Digital (DXF) Source Producer: Geomatics Canada Data
Acquisition Date: 1961 Original
Compilation: Geological Survey of Canada Projection: Universal Transverse Mercator Horizontal Datum: North American Datum 1983 Vertical Datum: Mean Sea Level Scale: 1:50 000 Elevation Units: Feet Production Media: Paper Source Producer: Geological Survey of Canada - Calgary Publication Date: 2002 Recommended Citation: Khudoley, A.K. 2002: Geology of the Tika Creek map area (95C/10), Yukon and Northwest Territories; Geological Survey of Canada, Open File map 1660, scale 1:50 000
WELL DATA: ASCII text from GSC-Calgary's corporate database facilities. Source Projection: non-projected Source Producer: GSC-Calgary Extraction Date: January 2003
LINEAGE: Geological data
were compiled from field inspection and scientific Independent
evaluation of the attribute and positional accuracy of the geological
data were conducted by peer review. The accuracy of
the source components that originated in the Geomatics Canada digital
files, the geological source data digital files, and the National Energy
Board of Canada data text files was maintained. This map may
contain discrepancies between feature positions located using an older
topographic base, and feature positions determined by more recent (GPS)
measurements. Inconsistencies (locally in excess of 100 metres) have
been resolved by creating a thematically consistent map (consistency
between geology and topography) while maintaining the spatial
accuracy of the outcrops (where located by GPS points). This may result
in apparent errors between the outcrop locations, and the positions of the
geological contact lines. Every effort has been made to reduce these
discrepancies while maintaining the accuracy of all source data. The Geomatics
Canada Drawing Exchange Format (DXF) files were uploaded to MicroStation/J
on a Windows2000 operating system. Geological linework was digitized
using MicroStation/J. Geological points were plotted by interfacing
MicroStation/J and a Microsoft Access2000 database. All data were edited
and finalized in ArcInfo 8.2. All data file types were created from
ArcInfo 8.2. Data are
provided in the following file types: .shp ArcView
Version 3.2 format SPATIAL DATA FILES: The data are
arranged according to the following: gel95c10 geological contacts srp95c10 orientation data stp95c10 geological stations una95c10 geological unit polygons unl95c10 geological unit lines
wlp95c10 wells Attributes are
defined here as the column names of the tables contained both in the
ArcInfo Exchange Format (E00) and SHAPE dBase (.dbf) files. Purpose: contains the attributes of geology lines Columns: subtype Subdivision of the feature type. Examples: normal, approximate direction Directional information pertaining to asymmetric features. Example: dip direction of a fault nts_map
National Topographic System designator. Example: 95C/10 Purpose: contains the attributes of points representing orientation measurements Columns: planar_id A unique identification for each planar measurement planar_typ The type of planar feature. Examples: bedding, cleavage modifier Description of the feature type. Examples: overturned, irregular strike Strike (according to the Right-Hand Rule) dip Dip location
Distance/direction from the station if measured between trend Trend of linear feature (value of 999 if no measurement available) plunge Plunge of linear feature (value of 999 if no measurement available) linear_typ The type of linear feature. Examples: ripple crests, fold axis comment
Notes relating to measurement disp_ang Achieves Right-Hand Rule orientation of symbols in ArcView. Derived using the formula (270-strike) nts_map
National Topographic System designator. Example: 95C/10 Purpose: contains the attributes of points representing outcrops Columns: station_id A unique identification of each outcrop where observations were made easting UTM NAD83 easting coordinate value of the station northing
UTM NAD83 northing coordinate value of the station unit The predominant geological unit at the outcrop dom_lithol The dominant lithologies at the outcrop geologist
